National data and planning opt-out
The national data opt-out allows a patient to choose if they do not want their confidential
patient information to be used for purposes beyond their individual care and treatment — for
research and planning.
Patients, or people acting for them by proxy, have control over setting or changing their
own opt-out choice, and can change their mind at any time.

Can I let somebody else have access to my online account?
As a parent, family member or carer, you may be able to access services for someone else. We
call this having proxy access. We can set this up for you if you are both registered with
us.
If you would like to do this, email our team at bswicb.downton.surgery@nhs.net

NHS App
If you’re a patient at our practice you can use the NHS App — a simple and secure way to
access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.
You can use the NHS App to get health advice, book appointments, order repeat prescriptions,
view your GP health record, and more.
If you already use SystmOnline you can continue to use it. You can use the NHS App as well.
For more information, go to www.nhs.uk/nhsapp.
Repeat Prescriptions
Did you know you can manage repeat prescriptions from Downton Surgery in the NHS App?
You can easily choose where your prescriptions are sent. So, if you know you’ll be away from
home or you’re moving home, you can change your nominated pharmacy from within the app.
You can also order your prescription at any time that suits you — no need to wait to join a
telephone queue or wait until the GP surgery opens.
If you hit a snag, go to “Help” in the top right-hand corner of the app, or visit
nhs.uk/helpmeapp.

Online health record
The NHS wants to give people better ways to see their personal health information online.
This can help you see test results faster, and read and review notes from your appointments
in your own time.
If you’re over 16 and have an online account — such as through the NHS App, NHS website, or
other GP online services and apps — you’ll automatically be able to see all future
information entered on your medical record. Some people can already access this feature;
this won’t change for you.
This means you’ll be able to see records from your appointments, as well as test results and
any letters saved on your records. This only applies to records from your doctor (GP), not
from hospitals or other specialists — although you’ll be able to see any letters that
hospitals or specialists send to your doctor. For most people, access will be automatic, and
you won’t need to do anything.
Your doctor may talk to you about test results before you’re able to see some information in
the app, or before you’re given full record access, to make sure that access is of benefit
to you. If you’re concerned that seeing your records isn’t right for you, speak to your
practice.
These changes only apply to people with online accounts. If you don’t want an online
account, you can still access your GP health record by requesting this information via
reception, or by contacting us online. These changes also only apply to personal information
about you — if you’re a carer and would like to see information about someone you care for,
speak to reception staff.
The NHS App, website and other online services are all very secure. Make sure you protect
your login details, and don’t share your password with anyone.
If you don’t want to see your health record, or would like more information about these
changes, speak to your GP or reception staff. You can also read more at
www.nhs.uk/gp-record.
A transcript is available on request — contact us online or call the surgery.
